This week I'm reading The Hate U Give by Angie Thomas. I'm only about halfway through and I am loving it. I have become so invested in it. It's about a young African American girl named Starr and her struggle with a traumatic experience. Sorry for the upcoming spoilers. One night Starr is coming home from a party with a friend, Khalil, and they get pulled over. When Khalil got asked to get out of the car by the officer, he leaned in to see if Starr was doing okay and the officer turned and shot, killing him. Now she's trying to go through life after watching her friend die. Which I could not imagine doing. Eventually she goes to the police to give her statements, since she was the witness, but the police were no hope for getting justice for Khalil. Starr also doesn't go to school in her neighborhood.
