Blog Post #3

This week I'm reading The Hate U Give by Angie Thomas.  I'm only about halfway through and I am loving it. I have become so invested in it. It's about a young African American girl named Starr and her struggle with a traumatic experience. Sorry for the upcoming spoilers. One night Starr is coming home from a party with a friend, Khalil,  and they get pulled over. When Khalil got asked to get out of the car by the officer, he leaned in to see if Starr was doing okay and the officer turned and shot, killing him. Now she's trying to go through life after watching her friend die. Which I could not imagine doing. Eventually she goes to the police to give her statements, since she was the witness, but the police were no hope for getting justice for Khalil. Starr also doesn't go to school in her neighborhood. She goes to a mostly white private school. Here, Starr tries to turn her "ghetto-ness" off to fit in with her friends at school. And when the friends from ...

Blog Post #2

I've gotten further into There's a Boy in the Girl's Bathroom. So far I have enjoyed this book and I would probably recommend it to people in the future. Plus its kind of an easy read. The chapters are really short, which makes you feel like you are flying through it. I finally found out that it was Jeff he accidentally wonders into the girl's bathroom. He's super embarrassed about it and tells Mrs. Davis it. She tried to convey to him that it was an honest mistake and that he shouldn't worry about it. A couple of days have gone by and Bradley and Jeff have become good friends. But Bradley finds out that Jeff actually likes Mrs. Davis and he doesn't know how to feel about that because he still doesn't want to like her. Jeff also starts to look out for Bradley and tries to help him out. For example, at  recess he keeps Bradley out of trouble. A group of girls try to talk to Jeff, which makes Bradley angry and wants to go "punch their faces in". ...
